Message From the National Philanthropic Chair

By ANTHONY SCHEMBARI, JR.

The holiday season is quickly approaching and the time for service and giving is in more demand than any other time of the year. Thanksgiving and Christmas open up countless opportunities for our brothers nationwide to show our dedication to serving our campuses and local communities.

At Xi Chapter in the past we have participated in programs that helped winterize elderly and disabled people's homes. This was funded by our local energy utility and usually took place over two or three Saturdays. My family volunteers every Christmas morning at a local soup kitchen for several hours. These are just two ideas that I submit for your consideration. If anyone has any other suggestions, please feel free to post them on the ADSG list-serve.

In addition, Jim Smith and I have been working on a national philanthropic event, "Carnations for Cancer," which we hope to hold over the next couple of months. This event will raise funds for either the Leukemia Society or American Cancer Society. One idea would be to hold this event on Valentine's Day in February. Again, if anyone has any additional thoughts, please contact me directly at (502) 553-2252, or by e-mail at asbryanthvac@bellsouth.net.
