ADG Returns to the Crescent City for
72nd National Convention, Aug. 5-10
By Michael Blackstock
Past National President
Convention Steward
Alpha Delta Gamma returns to fabulous New Orleans, the Crescent City, for its 72nd National Convention, August 5-10, 2003. It will be Epsilon chapter's first opportunity to host the big event since 1997, and actives and alumni have been working feverishly for the past year to prepare for the arrival of each chapter. According to Mike Blackstock, Past National President and this year's convention steward, the theme for this year's meeting gives us a French/Cajun twist with Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez (let the good times roll).
Delegates and other guests will once again stay at the Chateau Sonesta Hotel at the corner of Bourbon Street and Iberville in the fabled French Quarter. Activities kick off on Wednesday, August 6 with the opening mass being given by Loyola University President, Fr. Bernard Knoth. "That evening, we'll head to the Stately Uptown Mansion (otherwise known as the Epsilon chapter house) for the annual alumni BBQ.
Other extracurricular activities include a tour of the official D-Day Museum on Thursday, and an all-you-can-eat buffet at the Crescent City Brewhouse on Friday. Of course, what would a trip to New Orleans be without a visit to the famous Café Du Monde for beignets and coffee? Attendees will also hit the hot spots during the evenings. With the hotel located on Bourbon street, everything is conveniently located within easy walking distance, including all of the top bars, jazz clubs, the French Market and fine shopping.

( 1997 Convention in New Orleans )
Thursday night will include a group visit to the world-famous home of the Hurricane, Pat O'Brien's Piano Bar. We'll also make a trip to the Cat's Meow Karaoke bar on Friday afternoon following the service project. If music is your game, you'll have multiple jazz clubs on Bourbon Street to enjoy the true Louisiana flavor of music unlike any other style in America. For real Cajun spice, you'll also want to save room for a meal at the Acme Oyster House, located one block from the hotel.
For those who can't make it in for the week, we hope you'll consider joining us on Saturday night with the closing banquet, to be held at the Court of Two Sisters Restaurant. Highlighting the closing banquet will be an appreciation ceremony for Brother Anthony Smulders, CFMM, who has announced his retirement as National Moderator after 23 years of service.
As you can see, it is going to be quite a week for Alpha Delta Gamma. We'll see y'all there!
