ADG Returns to the City of Brotherly Love
With Newest Colony; Other Expansion News
By JAMES SMITH
Vice President, External Affairs
Since last year's convention, Alpha Delta Gamma has seen a heightened interest by groups around the nation who want to become affiliated with our Fraternity. This can be attributed to three major factors. The first, quite simply, is that the new structure of our national government allows us more flexibility to carve out an expansion plan. The second is the revamping of our national webpage. The Website Development Team has done an amazing job in turning our webpage into an eye-catching piece of art that enables thousands of college students to find out what ADG is all about and how they can become affiliated with us in a professional atmosphere. Lastly, the final and most important factor are the dedicated actives and alumni who have contributed to these efforts. Without their support and guidance, the continued growth of our great fraternity would not be possible.
Last fall, a concerted effort was made to establish a colony close to Kappa Chapter, in keeping with our plan to reactivate inactive chapters and shorten the distances between chapters to make us even closer as a national. The East Coast is a prime target because of the short distances between major cities. William Phelan, Mid-Atlantic Expansion Director (Kappa, Fall '00), sought out groups from the greater Philadelphia region. A solid group came forward at Philadelphia University that was led by Nick Saunders, a sophomore design major from Long Island, New York.
On March 22, 2003, 22 men became the official founding members of ADG's Philadelphia University Colony.

The ceremony was overseen by National President Bryan Lind, Vice President of Internal Affairs Tony Vaticano, and myself.
In addition to Bill Phelan, the colony is being supervised by Brian Carberry, Colony Alumni Advisor (Kappa, Spring '99) and the Department of External Affairs. This past spring semester, the colony went through a candidate program to develop the fundamentals of brotherhood. Over the next year they will continue to develop as a colony and as individuals so that one day they will become a chapter and full active members of the Fraternity.
The addition of this new colony is definitely a credit to the true brotherhood of our alumni and actives. Brian Carberry volunteered three nights a week to help supervise the colony and start them on their journey toward brotherhood. Bill and other Kappa brothers went above and beyond their commitments, with candidate fathers contributing greatly and lines of communication staying open throughout the process. I'd also like to commend Kappa alumnus James Frawley (Fall '99), who was able to provide excellent advice and guidance when it was needed.

We have an exciting group of guys on the expansion team who are actively seeking out new interest groups, as well as trying to reactivate old chapters, but alumni support is also critical to this effort. Not many people can donate three days a week to expansion efforts, but a letter from a concerned alumnus to a university can go a long way.
