An Insight to Law School: Alphadelity Q&A

Each year, many of our brothers further their education by attending graduate school or law school, following in the footsteps of such distinguished alumni as Judge J. Skelly Wright and Judge Benjamin Aranda. Alphadelity recently interviewed with Kappa Chapter alum Brian Carberry, as he was finishing his first year at Boston College Law School.

Q: What do you remember most about your years as an undergraduate?
A: The best memories I have were when the guys from ADG and I would shoot the breeze over a game of pool or a few drinks on any given night of the week. These moments reminded me that my Brothers formed a second family for me while in college. I'll always miss those moments. What made me decide to join ADG? Two people: the first was a girl from Roxborough, Lauren Carapucci, who had pledged a sorority at Pitt the year before I came to CUA. She said, "Brian, make sure that you join a fraternity." The second was a brother of ADG named Arthur Taylor, who befriended me during my first days as a freshman at CUA. I imagined that if a person as amicable as Art loved this fraternity so much, than maybe it would be the right fraternity for me.

Q: What made you decide to study law at BC?
A: I decided to go here because of its reputation, its location in Boston, and the fact that it offered a little Jesuit education.

Q: What areas of law are you concentrating on?
A: Criminal prosecution. I hope to be an assistant district attorney back home in Philadelphia.

Q: Has your ADG experience helped you with law school so far?
A: My experience in ADG helped me to deal with people from all different backgrounds and to respect differing points of view. These skills have helped me to get along with my peers in law school and to participate in classroom debates without losing my cool whenever someone disagrees with me.

Q: Tell us a little more about yourself.
A: I am a native of Philadelphia and I attended The Catholic University of America from 1998-2002, when I graduated with a degree in world politics. I pledged ADG in the Spring of '99 and held every office except President at Kappa Chapter. I am set to graduate from Boston College Law School in 2006.

Q: Do you have any specific advice for Alphadelts considering law school?
A: Keep your grades up and practice for the LSATs. Also, choose a law school that you like, in a place that you like. Don't just listen to U.S. News.
